I SURRENDER

I’ve been holed up in a safe place—
what I call a sea of tranquility
for almost a year.
When I’m not listening to WBGO, I hear,
the enemy descending out of a night of shattered stars
with the toxic DNA of every tyrant that ever lived.
I can smell the stench of burning flesh.
They attack with weapons I have never seen or heard—
ionization blasters, sonic pistols, and ray guns.
The world is drowning in hypocrisy and murder
with no sign of the soft breasts of a loving woman.
Flags are waving— boots greased with homicidal juice
are marching under fat bodies searching for someone
to kill, no matter the race or creed, almost anyone will do.
This is no longer a safe hiding place.
I wave a tiny white flag and emerge.
